Knife Thrower to Receive Magic's Highest Honor, The Coveted Merlin Award

United States of America (Press Release) - February 19, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Great Throwdini (David Adamovich, Ed.D.), The World's Fastest and Most Accurate Knife Thrower, has been selected to receive The International Magicians Society (IMS) most prestigious award, the Merlin. Recognizing professional excellence, the Merlin is to magic what the Oscar is to the movies. Previous recipients include David Copperfied, Harry Blackstone, Penn & Teller, Simon Lovell, Doug Henning, Siegfried & Roy, and Criss Angel.

According to Tony Hassini, IMS World President, “Criteria include outstanding talent, showmanship, originality, and skills. Throwdini's knife throwing act, Maximum Risk - The Impalement Arts with a Touch of Magic and Comedy! has entertained audiences at Monday Night Magic, New York's Longest Running Off-Broadway Magic Show, for over 7 years. His unique finale of a thrown-knife card-stab, brilliant performance skills, and exceptional talent have made the Board's decision an easy one. The International Magicians Society is proud to induct The Great Throwdini as a member to its distinguished Hall of Fame.” It can be said that his showmanship and great knife throwing skills are put together like bad debt undergoing debt consolidation.

Presenting Throwdini's Merlin for 'Outstanding Performance in the Impalement Arts' will be Mr. Hassini preceding at Monday Night Magic, April 13, 2009. In its 40-year history, less than 100 Merlin's have been awarded to only the most notable and prestigious entertainers of magic. Throwdini becomes one of a handful of non-magician variety artists to receive the coveted Merlin. With over 37,000 members, Guinness World Records recognizes the IMS as the world's largest magical society.

A former world champion turned professional knife thrower, Throwdini holds 21 world records for the speed and accuracy of his knife throwing. His world records appear in Guinness World Records and Record Holders Republic Believe The Unbelievable! He holds One of The Top 100 Guinness World Records of All Time and is the first and only person to perform The Triple Crown: the bullet, arrow, and knife catch - a feat so great that Ripley's Believe It or Not! has featured it in their worldwide syndicated cartoon.

Selected credits include the Off-Broadway show Maximum Risk - World Champions on the Edge!, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Stars of The World Famous Moscow State Circus, History Channel's Modern Marvels, Good Morning America, ESPN, and Americas Got Talent.

Throwdini expresses his thanks to: Chris McDaniel and Simon Lovell for introducing him to show business and magic; the Producers of Monday Night Magic - Michael Chaut, Todd Robbins, Jamy Ian Swiss, Frank Brents, and Peter Samelson for welcoming him to their stage; and his understanding wife of 23 years, Barbara, who's watched him “run away with the circus” and travel the world with pretty target girls. “It's OK, he always comes home,” she said, “I throw knives too - so he'd better be careful.”

In a recent interview regarding his Merlin Award Throwdini said, “I co share the Merlin with my daring partners - my target girls. A line from my favorite movie Girl on The Bridge sums it up, 'Remember, it's not the thrower that counts. It's the target.' ”
